FIFA and Control Room (an Emmy Award-winning music events producer) announced a star studded list of performing artists for the FIFA World Cup Kick-Off opening event. The line-up includes Alicia Keys, Amadou & Mariam, Angelique Kidjo, Black Eyed Peas, BLK JKS, John Legend, Juanes, Shakira, The Parlotones, Tinariwen, Vieux Farka Toure and Vusi Mahlasela. More performance announcements are expected in the near future.

The spectacular event will take place at the Orlando Stadium in Johannesburg at 20:00 local South African time on 10 June 2010, ahead of the official opening match of the FIFA World Cup South Africa™ on 11 June 2010. The stadium has the capacity to host 30 000 people and will be broadcast to billions of people across the globe. With 2010 and Africa’s very first Soccer World Cup now also comes one of the most incredible entertainment shows ever to be held on the continent. The exciting line-up includes a balance of popular local and international artists, as well as football legends and other major celebrities.

“We are thrilled to have a concert of such magnitude and performing talent raise the curtain on the first FIFA World Cup in Africa. It is testament to the universal and unifying power of football and music, and will start the competition off on the right note – of celebration,” said FIFA Secretary General Jerome Valcke.

Award-winning producer Kevin Wall from the Control Room, who was the visionary behind Live Earth 2007, is managing the event. The successful Live Earth 2007 event raised awareness for climate change by showcasing 150 artists over 24 hours, performing on seven different continents.

Proceeds from the FIFA World Cup Kick-Off concert will be donated to charity through the Official Campaign of the FIFA World Cup South Africa™.
