Some cool facts about popcorn

Popcorn was a popular treat from the 1890s until the Great Depression. Street vendors pushed steam or gas-powered poppers through fairs, parks and other events.
During the Depression, popcorn cost between 5-10 cents a bag. It was one of the few treats people could afford.
During World War II, sugar was sent overseas for U.S. troops. This put a dent in the candy-making industry. As a result, Americans ate three times as much popcorn as usual.
Television caused a downturn in popcorn consumption in the 1950s. Movie attendance dropped, which caused a drop in popcorn consumption.
Americans eat 17 billion quarts of popped popcorn each year
